The Re-Tired Pavillion (2023) was started as a group project exploring parametric aided material reuse design by Evan Levy, Nate Jones and myself and to research the possibility of arraying tires vertically, in both tension and compression. We used circle-packing scripts in Grasshopper 3D to mimic the actual diameters of tires we were given for free by local tire shops. We then worked iteratively and back and forth between digital and physical design, sourcing connection details that would allow us to modulate the angles of tire connections. We built a 1:1 scale chunk that could be assembled and dissasembled for our final review.
